The Importance of Elections in Democratic Political Process
Abstract
There are many terms defining democracy. Some of them are very short, others are comprehensive. In practice, however, a lot of definitions are related to the political representation. The political representation is a key element of the contemporary indirect democracy and the elections can be defined as "circulatory system" of the representative democracy. Political representation on the other hand has faced a number of challenges. In response to them in contemporary democracies there have been observed a resurgence of various forms of direct democracy. But these forms can't replace the elections. The election is an Institute, whose character is mixed. It is based on the two side fold between direct and representative democracy and the social importance of elections increases in accordance with the main trend of the contemporary society development - democracy promoting.
